WK 2: Present with Others - Day 6
Theme: Present with Others
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Observation: We aren’t meant to do any of this alone. Go back and reread the verses. You have probably heard it said that there is no “I” in team. There is also no “I” in these verses. This is written with the expectation that “we” are surrounded by people, so let “us” (together) lay aside every weight… and let “us” run with endurance the race that is before “us.”
One of the phrases you might hear said is that we are “better together.” This isn’t just a cute phrase, it is the truth. We need each other. We need each other to celebrate with, and we need each other to weep with. Recently, I heard an incredible challenge: never cry alone. A group of friends agreed to it, and it has changed them. Letting people into our lives, especially the hard parts, matters. It helps people know how to pray and love, and care for us. And that, that can in many ways keep our eyes focused on Jesus.
Prayer: Jesus, help us to be brave and always be willing to pull another chair up to the table. Help us walk into rooms looking for the lost, the one that needs a friend. Help us surround others as your great cloud of witnesses. Give us eyes to see the ones you want us to serve and love today. Amen.
Application: Never cry alone. It’s an incredible challenge to all of us. When you need and want to cry, be brave enough to invite someone else into that. The prayers of His people can change everything. We'd love to know what you think of this idea in the comments.

I have always tried to cry alone. "Boys don't cry" etc of course this is all nonsense, I now know. God gave men tears too.
nI no longer feel shame about crying or telling someone I am sad. Never the less, I occasionally still find myself holding my tears back. Even though I know letting them fall is good for me; as they are cleansing my soul.
